Angelo, 69, used to live higher up in Materdei, before discovering the wonder that was to be found in the Fontanelle.
His parish priest involved him in the work of caring for the Cemetery, which needed to become once again a place of memory and prayer. He met the woman who would become his wife when, together with his friends, he worked on the Cemetery’s lighting system. He remembers with affection the elderly women in aprons who, outside their homes, managed to sell candles and little oil lamps so that those entering the Cemetery could honour the memory of the dead.
A place of blessed souls
He firmly believes in the intercession of the living for the benefit of the dead, but he is equally confident in God’s mercy. For this reason, he is convinced that all the souls of the Fontanelle Cemetery are now blessed souls in the presence of eternal light.
