Catacombs of San Gennaro

A unique burial site dating back to the 2nd century AD, which houses precious frescoes and early Christian artifacts. This is where the restoration and management of the cultural heritage of the Rione Sanità began.

Catacombs of San Gaudioso

The city’s second most important early Christian site houses frescoes and mosaics dating from the 5th and 6th centuries. From the 17th century onwards, it became a burial place for nobles and clergy.

Basilica di Santa Maria della Sanità

In the heart of the Rione Sanità, this Baroque basilica houses a collection of 17th-century Neapolitan paintings. Another must-see is the ‘Presepe Favoloso’, a fresco depicting Neapolitan life and culture created by La Scarabattola.

Jago Museum

Sculptor Jago’s museum-studio is a constantly evolving journey, where the myths of the past are brought to life in a contemporary context, linked to current events. The Jago Museum is managed by La Sorte Cooperative.

Basilica di San Severo

The Basilica of San Severo Fuori le Mura plays a central role in the life of the Rione Sanità. It houses the Cappella dei Bianchi, featuring works by artists Vaccaro, Giordano, and Fracanzano, and Jago’s sculpture 'Figlio Velato'. The basilica is managed by the Cooperativa La Sorte.

Chiesa Blu - the Blue Church

La Chiesa Blu dei Cristallini racconta di speranza e rinascita, attraverso i volti della comunità, le opere di Tono Cruz, Mono González e Giuliana Conte, e l'altare realizzato dai detenuti del carcere di Secondigliano con la prua di un barcone arrivato da Lampedusa.

Chiesa di Santa Maria della Misericordiella

A Baroque gem hidden for years, restored and transformed into a cultural hub by the SMMAVE Association – Centre for Contemporary Art, founded by the sculptor Christian Leperino in collaboration with contemporary art professionals, historians, architects and restorers.

The Cristallini Hypogeum

A recently restored site where visitors can explore Hellenistic burial chambers decorated with reliefs and paintings of extraordinary quality. It offers an insight into the funerary practices of antiquity and, along with the various catacomb sites, bears witness to the area’s original purpose.

Augustean Aqueduct of the Serino

Built in the 1st century AD, the structure stretches for around 100 km. The section uncovered in the Vergini-Sanità area consists of two canal bridges and lies beneath the Palazzo Peschici-Maresca. Managed by the Vergini-Sanità Ass., which is responsible for the project to enhance and promote the site.

Santa Maria Antesaecula Hypogeum

A valuable example of the Hellenistic necropolis of Neapolis, with two hypogea open to visitors: the ‘Togati’ hypogeum, featuring a high relief depicting a funeral farewell scene, and the ‘Melograni’ hypogeum, with wall frescos and a frame adorned with a row of fruit, symbols of fertility and rebirth. Visits by appointment through the Celanapoli Cultural Association.
